Cast a Weight Forward Fly Line
This video is all about how to properly cast a Weight Forward (WF) Fly Line when trying to achieve distance greater than the length of the Fly Line Head.
WF Lines feature a compacted head followed by a Thinner Running Line. This Thin Running Line reduces friction in the guides and in the air and make for better aerodynamics for the fly line. The problem most people have when casting a WF line however, is that they slip to much line while false casting. This puts the Head far away from the rod tip creating inaccuracy, as well as the fact that the thin Running Line cannot properly transfer the energy and path of the rod tip into the distant Head.
To properly Cast a WF Line, keep the Head of the fly line just outside the last guide + 5' or 6' of running line to accommodate a double haul. Then simply shoot the line to the distance you need.
